ACTIVE FAITH

Devotions No Comments »

I love it when you can pair  two verses together in a numerical or other memory key that relate to the same topic.  It helps you to remember them.  One such instance is Hebrews 11:1 and Hebrews 12:1.  Here you have the first verse of two chapters that are side by side.  Hebrews 11:1 tells us that true faith is not based on what is seen, for that would not be faith.  It is rather based on what we know to be true from God’s Word.  Hebrews 12:1 tells us to rid ourselves of what ever is holding us back from serving God.  We have a cloud of faithful witnesses watching over us so let’s act on our faith and do what God calls us to even when we don’t see how it can happen.  If we live our lives at home, school, work, or wherever we are at according to these verses, God can use us to do great things.

DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY!!!! - 4/27/08

Devotions No Comments »

Philippians 4:6 tells us to not be anxious about anything.  I Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all our care on the Lord.  These are commands from the Lord that most of us probably break quite frequently.  If that is the case, then what does that say about our prayer life and trust in God?  If we believe God to be faithful then why do we continue to worry after we pray to Him?  Let’s get on with the life that God has in store for us and just be happy!!!

STAND FIRM - 4/20/08

Devotions No Comments »

Exodus 14:13 says, “Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today”.

Too many times we try to “help God out” as if we can really do that.  In reality God calls us to stand firm on His Word, the Bible, and when we run into those times when we just don’t know what else to do, He will come along and show us the way.

Let us not get in our own way of seeing God’s way.

A GOOD VERSE IN A BAD BOOK - 4/13/08

Devotions No Comments »

I heard a pastor use this phrase recently, “A good verse in a bad book”.  He was referring to Jeremiah 29:11.  The book of Jeremiah is full of bad things that are happening; however, in the middle of all this is a promise of God that He has good thoughts towards you and knows what is going to happen.  Your end, your outcome is not left up to chance.  God is in control.  So if you are struggling right now, just bow to Him and trust Him.  I heard someone else once say “you could not climb the mountain if it were smooth”.  So remember, God knows what is best and has thoughts of peace for you.

SO CLOSE YET SO FAR - 4/6/08

Devotions No Comments »

I was preparing a Bible study and was studying the life of Moses.  Moses was a geat man of God, yet missed the Promise Land.  Why?  He missed it because of sin.  He did not obey God and not even all that He did for God was enough to get him to the Promise Land.  When you fail to do things God’s way it brings consequences.  The book of Numbers 27:12-14 tells of God reminding Moses of this.

Moses would see the Promise Land but not enter it.  How many times have we known God’s will and been close to doing it but just didn’t get there?  How many times has God been ready to bless us but we blew it.

DON”T miss out on what God has for you.  DON’T come so close yet be so far.
